Turner Camac (Dublin) copper Conder halfpenny token dated 1792. Issued by The Hibernian Mine Company prior to them listing all of the partners on their tokens. Obverse: Cypher of "H M Co", (Hibernian Mine Company): "TURNER CAMAC CHAIRMAN HALFPENNY". Reverse: Hibernia seated to the left with her right hand on her knee and the left supporting a eight-stringed harp: "INCORPORATED BY ACT OF PARLIAMENT 1792". Edge inscription: "PAYABLE IN DUBLIN OR BALLYMURTAGH" but largely obliterated. This series is described in Dalton & Hamer as "RR - VERY RARE" with a maximum of five known of some varieties, however I do not think they are quite as rare as the reference books imply! Poor collectable condition, has been cleaned in the past, see photograph. D&H Dublin No: 291bis. Diameter 29mm. VG. £25.00 e-mail David at d-stuart@d-stuart.demon.co.uk to order. |
